Sword Choreography Workshop ~ with Bronwyn (ACT)
Time & Location
About the Event
Canberra-based Bronwyn has more than two decades of experience in folkloric and American Tribal Style® belly dance, captivating audiences with her serpentine movements and holding their attention with a powerful and elegant stage presence. Formerly of Buasavanh Tribal Belly Dance, Bronwyn is especially known for her proficiency in that most dangerous and hypnotic dance, Raqs al-saïf―the Sword Dance. Bronwyn is a crowd favourite wherever she goes and as a teacher unites a light-hearted and supportive teaching style and a wealth of practical instruction.
In this two-hour workshop Bronwyn demystifies the most dramatic prop of all―the sword―with a series of manipulations and combinations that will build into a choreographed sequence set to Beats Antique’s Three Sisters.
Open to dancers from all styles of belly dance, from beyond beginners to advanced, this workshop contains a floor-work component. Students who do not wish to participate in this component will be catered to. The workshop also contains a double sword extension component, so if you’re ready to challenge yourself, bring an extra sword! One sword or two, floor-work or not, all students will learn an entire choreography.
Bring a sword (or two!) and kneepads, as well as light hand weights if possible, a yoga mat, water bottle and notebook. If you haven’t got a sword, a dance cane can be used to get a feel for the shapes and movements, although it will not behave the same as a sword for balancing...
